GINA support for the Alaska Volcano Observatory
GINA provides realtime satellite data to the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) in order to assess the nature, timing, and likelihood of volcanic activity. GINA captures data on the UAF campus and provides data from the NOAA-NESDIS Fairbanks Command and Data Acquisition Station in support of the AVO's mission to monitor Pacific Rim volcanoes. In particular, the realtime AVHRR and MODIS data is used to track volcanic hazards such as ash plumes. This successful partnership has been ongoing since 1993.
