The Alaska Statewide Digital Mapping Initiative’s primary goal is acquire new and better maps for Alaska and make existing map products more easily available. The SDMI is a cooperative state program endorsed by the Governor and implemented by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), and the University of Alaska (UA).
SDMI data is provided by numerous state, federal, and local partners.
GINA is the engine behind the SDMI’s web and data services. GINA hosts and provides the SDMI web services, public web sites, and holds and serves the SDMI data archive. There is a browsable map interface at browse.alaskamapped.org and the interface to the ‘Best Data Layer’ is available as Google KML files and ESRI Layer files.
